Online Group and Partner Music Classes: How They Work and Why They're Ideal for You
At Krescendo Music Academy, we offer a range of class options designed to cater to budding musicians of all ages and skill levels. Among our newer offerings are online partner classes and online group classes. In this blog post, we'll delve into the mechanics of these classes, their unique benefits, and why they might be the perfect choice for your musical journey.
Our virtual group classes are conducted in small groups of 3 to 4 students. Each student participates from their home, equipped with an instrument and a device for streaming the lesson. We utilize a low-latency video platform where our instructors guide all students simultaneously, mirroring the dynamics of a traditional classroom setting.
During each demonstration, students see the teacher on their screen in a large, clear format, ensuring optimal visibility and comprehension. Afterward, students individually practice the activity without their peers listening in, while the instructor can either listen to all students collectively or focus on individual students. The instructor can also engage with each student separately to offer specific guidance, and students have the option to ask questions privately without distracting others. When everyone has mastered an exercise, that’s when the fun begins! Students can either play together with their instructor or perform solo if they choose to do so.
What are the benefits of online group learning?
Partner and group classes offer the best of both worlds, providing a fun and social environment for students while affording them the privacy and space to explore their musical journey individually. Our teachers can monitor each student's progress while allowing them to master new concepts without the self-consciousness that often accompanies playing in front of peers for extended periods, as would be the case in an in-person classroom setting. For students, there is always an opportunity to seek the teacher's guidance without feeling shy in front of their peers, all while enjoying the fun and interaction of playing with others.
Many of our students opt for group classes as supplementary tutoring for the instruments they play in their school orchestras or bands. In most school orchestras and bands, children are taught to play instruments in large groups of 20 or more students, which can be challenging for beginners.
This setup places students without prior private music lessons at a disadvantage and can deter them from fully participating in recitals and genuinely enjoying the experience. Our small group classes enable instructors to provide individual attention to each student, tailoring explanations to each student's unique needs and pace. This ensures that every student fully grasps what they are learning and doesn't feel left behind. While some students enroll with friends and classmates to enjoy the learning process, others use group classes to connect with fellow young musicians and forge new friendships.
On the other hand, our short-term introductory group classes offer an affordable way for students to test an instrument they're interested in— just long enough to determine their affinity for it. If they discover a passion, these introductory courses lay a strong foundation, instilling confidence and empowerment from the outset.
For those seeking to study with a partner, our online partner classes provide the perfect solution. Whether siblings, friends, or classmates, students can learn the same instrument together, no matter if they're both beginners or have been playing for some time and posess similar skill levels. Each student operates from their own space, allowing the teacher to instruct while providing each student their own space, time, and privacy to progress at their own pace. Then, once both peers master a song, exercise, or activity, the fun begins, and duets and performances for each other can commence. Indeed, it is an ideal and enjoyable way to grow together!
As you can see, our virtual group and partner classes offer an affordable, enjoyable, and social avenue for learning a musical instrument. Whether you're a young child exploring your musical interests, a teenager seeking individualized attention for orchestra or band participation, or an adult yearning for camaraderie with fellow musicians, our group and partner class options are the perfect solution. We offer courses for various instruments, age groups, and skill levels.
